How to use my iphone in Mexico with out extra charges?

I'm going to spend a day in Mexico next week, how can I keep any calls or messages coming in so that I won't get charged? I would still like to use Wi-Fi if it is available somewhere. Is this possible? I tried it on airplane mode at my house (where there's Wi-Fi) and I wasn't able to go on the Internet. So is there any way I can do that or will I just not use Internet on my Iphone?

I have a friend in canada.
i spent a day there to visit him and used a text messaging/call app to contact family in the US and my grandma who was in mexico for a couple months.
phone bill came and no extra charges.

  • Will Verizon charge me more if I use my iPhone in Mexico? I live in the US, but will be traveling to Mexico within the next month. Will Verizon charge me if I go onto Twitter or Instagram or Facebook while in Mexico?
  • Will I be able to use 'Talkatone while in Mexico to call the US? Going to Mexico for a month. Would be nice to know if "Talkatone" app on iphone will work in Mexico, for call the United States. Anyone know. Conflicting answers on google. Thanks It is free calling to the US & Canada. But would it be free calling to the US From Mexico?

  • What app can I use for messaging in Mexico I'm going to Mexico next week for a few days & I know that Sprint charges.15cents receiving messages and.50cents sending but also using an app costs 4.00 everytime I use it. Is there a messaging app I can use that won't charge me or being able to at least use twitter?! I have an iPhone 4 & it's also jailbroken if there's any apps that can help me.
