I dropped my iphone 5 in the bath? Not sure if rice is working?

I dropped my iphone 5 in the bath on Thursday evening. It's now Saturday morning. It was submerged for a second or two before I took it out.

I immediately dried it off with a towel. It wasn't registering my movements on the screen. I couldn't swipe to unlock my phone or turn it off. Sometimes it would work, but 9/10 it wouldn't. I turned it off by resetting it, used a hairdryer on it, and submerged it in brown rice for a day. I checked on it about 3 times during the day, it was no better. It is still submerged in rice as we speak.

Is there anything else I can do? I don't have insurance, or much money for that matter. I really hope I can rescue my phone.

Added (1). I looked at similar questions to mine before I did anything with my phone, and one said leave the rice for 12 hours, one said 24, and one said a few days. This was why I checked my phone. Oh well. **** happens.

Added (2). I'm from the UK, and upon calling Apple they said they would replace my phone for £215-£250. I have pretty much surrendered to the fact it is broken.

Well the phone would have been fine had you not turned it back on when you did this and there was still moisture inside you fried it if you get a phone wet you have to leave/turn it off and put it in rice for i recommend 48 hours then you can try and use it but sorry mate your phones dead forever now

With insurance you'll pay a deductible ($200?). Without insurance you'll pay full price ($600+)

for your best chance to save a wet electronic device…
1. Do not turn it on or try to charge
2. If possible, remove the battery
3. Contact TekDry - they have a patented process that will remove all of the water for sure - typically in about 30 minutes, without taking it apart.

With rice or desiccant, it takes much longer (days) and you don't know if/when your device is dry. Each time you try to power it on to find out if it is dry, you do more damage to your device. Plus while your phone sits in rice for days your device continues to corrode and you get rice particles inside your phone creating more issues.

Rice (or silica gels/desiccants) does absorb water, but only when in direct contact. Rice outside of your device will not draw water from within your device. If the humidity is extremely high it is possible rice will draw some water from the air, however the humidity around your wet phone is not going to get that high. So while popular to try, rice does not actually do anything to dry your phone. You might think it did if your phone turns on but there's likely still water in the phone that can continue to cause damage.
