I got called by a random number and?
I live in South Carolina and I don't know anyone from DC but I just got a call on my iPhone from a number with a 202 area code that said DC, USA. I didn't know who it was so I didn't pick up and after the call ended, I called it right back only to receive an error PPS 6180 code. What does that mean? I don't understand how a number who just called me is unreachable.
Never answer or return an unknown phone call. You could be scamed.
Lots of people get funny calls like that once in a while. There's a few specific numbers that show up on caller id for this kind of thing. Often if you answer, there's just nobody at the other end. And you usually can't call them back.
Make a note of the number and google it, and you'll likely find posts from other people complaining about the same kind of call from that number.
I get these a couple times a year maybe. Who the hell knows what it is. Kids playing around, scammers, government spies. Who knows.
Caller ID can be spoofed rather easily. It could also be an outbound extension from a company- for example, 555-555-0100 is the phone number to call but the outbound number might show 555-555-0132 or something; calling the 0132 number can give varied results, depending on the system used.
If they don't leave a voicemail, there's no reason to call back; it's either not important, a wrong number, or someone scamming.
