You need a SIM card. There's no way around that part.
The SIM card doesn't need to be activated. You only need it that one time to complete the initial setup process. Once it is done, you can take out the SIM card.
You will need to get a SIM card from the carrier that the phone is locked to, or if the phone is unlocked, any compatible SIM card.
- What's the reason why you have to have a SIM card to activate an iPhone? What if I want to use my phone after my plan gets canceled. Is that legal without a sim? And is it legal to use someone's sim to activate it if my phone software brakes. But what's the reason that you need one to get into the iPhone?
