I have found an Iphone 5 underwater at my lake and was wondering can I sell it legally?

I like to go free diving at a frequently visited cove at the lake I reside on and happened to come upon and Iphone 5. I'm currently in the process of drying it out since it appeared to be down there a week at most (although I'm pretty certain the phone is toast). Knowing that I can never turn it on again (pretty certain it won't) do I have any option of selling it at all? Furthermore is there anyway to tell which carrier it is without the phone turning on? Or should I just throw it away and be done with the deceased phone. If I can sell it what are my options and to whom should I sell it too.

What you should try to do is see if there are any photos on the memory card… And post them on the internet along with a photo of the waterlogged phone. See if you can reunite the phone, it's contents and its owner.

Yea you can, but I wouldn't recommend it

If the phone is done then it probably does not have any significant resale value except for perhaps the original owner of the phone, who may or may not offer a reward for the returned item. Otherwise, I would say it's pretty worthless and there may be local laws that determine the legality of selling items that you have found, such as ones relating to waiting periods or attempts to contact the original owner.

No. It isn't yours. Besides, it is worthless.
