I'm bored in China. What to do?
Around late April, my parents said I had to be in China for three weeks to visit my grandparents and have a vacation in Beijing(for one week). Sadly, my parents taught me English before my Chinese, so I can't really communicate with people where I'm unless they ask me a question. I was hoping for Facebook to be around when I come here but I found out recently from a friend that Facebook and Youtube is banned here. I have tried asking my dad for a paid VPN but he said no, for reasons unknown (note: I have tried proxies and other methods, but they do not work). My mobile consoles like my DS can't be recharged as the amount of voltage in China is different to the USA's. Outside of my grandparent's house, there's pollution everywhere. Compared to the US, most people spit on the ground and throw trash everywhere, making a walk outside not enjoyable. The only sort of entertainment I have is my iPhone(can't call or text internationally), my laptop(restricted internet), exercising, sleep, and some gum. Please help, I feel like I'm going crazy without some sort of communication with the English world.
Added (1). I have Skype but my only connections are to 2 friends. Since they live on the other side of the world, I'll always be awake when they're sleeping and vice versa.
And what sites do you recommend for me to talk to people besides Omegle and Chatroulette?
Go shopping? Or talk to simsimi
Why not try Skype? You can talk with people all around the world there. But you have to pay.
Buy a chinese language book and try to learn the language. You might learn something. It is fun.
You can send me an email via my Y! A profile link.
I'm an American living in Taiwan (ROC); same Time Zone.
It's not the same as sitting down for a nice face-to-face conversation with an English speaker from your own culture, but it might help some.
If you wait, there might be some others posting answers here who are willing to "keep you company" online.
Skype chat with Lora. Its always available.
Some ABCs definitely had fun in beijing, you're among the minorities who doesn't enjoy it. Maybe because of your language barrier or you don't know places where you can explore the culture… Or you don't know how to.
The best option for you is if you still want chinese culture you can go to HK, they have more english speakers there. Or taiwan, lots of young people love there. Or just go back to the US.
