I'm leaving abroad soon, and I'd like some help buying a personal travel Wi-Fi router?
I want to be able to access the Internet on my iPhone 6 and laptop. I don't have the data to use to access my "personally hotspot" on my phone, so I need an adapter that I can carry with me. Since my phone is 4G, I've noticed some routers don't work for that. Does anyone know of any routers that are compact and work for the iPhone 6 (as well as other devices)? It is fine if it has to be plugged into my phone, I just want something that'll work.
Even if you have a portable router you can't simply connect to the internet for free, you are going to have to buy data to allow you to access the internet.
The simplest way would be to upgrade your iPhone contract and use it as a personal hotspot. However be aware that data charges abroad can be astronomical, this would be the same whether you use your iphone personal hotspot or a mifi router
here are examples of portable routers, as with any of these you need to take out a contract to allow for the data charges

Better you go a store and ask the salesman about your need.
You will need a SIM that works when you are abroad. If you use a home country SIM when you are abroad, then roaming and data charges can be very high. You might be better buying a PAYG SIM with a data package when you reach your destination. Get your iPhone unlocked and swap the SIM for the PAYG card. Leave a message on your voice mail for your normal SIM with the country code and number of the PAYG SIM. This will avoid you paying any charges for receiving calls while abroad.
When you get home, swap the SIM back and ditch the temporary card.
- Why do some people like to act like iPhones and iPads are status symbols? If it were, I mean you'd have the whole lifestyle to keep up. But a lot of people buy them. I'll admit they're both convenient but I find it a little weird to think anything of owning one. (This is in general, and not directed towards how people act to me - just my observation).
- What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150
- Personal hotspot & wireless router? I've just moved into a new apartment and there's no internet here yet. I have an iPhone with unlimited data and we have 3 computers, 2 of them are Wi-Fi enabled and a wireless router that's connected to the wired computer. The question is how to make the router connect to the iPhone via wi-fi and re-translate internet to all 3 computers. I need to share the internet connection via wi-fi WITH my router (belkin f5d8633-4) and not other devices.
- New iPhone for travel abroad? I'm going to be in Europe for three months and need to get an unlocked phone that I can put a new SIM card in to get a local number. I understand that the iPhone 5 comes unlocked. Does that mean I can purchase it through Verizon on a two year contract and put a different SIM card in it a month after purchasing it and it will work or can I not do that until the contract is up? I want to be able to use it on my family's Verizon plan when I get back.
