I talked with someone that works at at&t and she unlocked my iphone 5 for me. How do i know if its actally unlocked? Or how can I check?

She said My phone was unlocked and I could use it with any carrier but how do I know if its actually unlocked

Just plop in another sim card… I mean, that's the main reason you would ask them to unlock a phone in the first place… And, to be honest, it's not as if they win anything by lying to you and saying they unlocked it but actually didn't… So just trust them that it's unlocked, and if your new sim doesn't work, then just go back to them and ask them to unlock it again…

Have her put it in writing and if you fullfilled your contract you are ok.

Maybe look in the settings and see if the "carrier" is cleared in the "about" section of "general" in your "settings"

You'd have to put in a SIM from another carrier. T-Mobile for example.

You need to get hold of a SIM card from another carrier, preferably T-Mobile or one of T-mobile's MVNO's such as Walmart Family Mobile or MetroPCS. If you insert a non AT&T SIM and it works, your phone is unlocked. If your phone is not unlocked and you insert a non AT&T SIM, you will get a prompt of INVALID SIM or you will get ENTER UNLOCK CODE and those will let you know your phone is not unlocked.
