Because I've noticed that the iPhone 8 is like $800 so if they're basically giving it to you for free isn't there a catCh or something

Depends on what carrier you are using plus their will eventually be a catch for what happens after that two year contract ends. Usually your options are to either upgrade or buy the phone so you are no longer leasing it off the contract.
