They'll deactivate the SIM card so that whoever has your phone can't use it. You'll still have to make the monthly payments until it's paid off.
If you're renting the phone, you'll have to make the monthly payments and pay off the phone since you don't have a phone to return.
Hopefully you have insurance on the phone, otherwise you are in a tough spot.
If YOU have insured it you will have to pay an EXCESS and it will be replaced. If it later turns up and you've sold it then you could end up with a criminal record will could affect you for years.
After you report the phone missing it'll be disabled remotely which unless you are a member of the Israli Secret Service you'll never be able to re-enable! If you've sold it on and the person you sold it on to comes after you, then you could have some pretty pissed off buyer who could end up chasing you through the courts for their money.

- Can they get into the phone if they know the passcode when it's in lost mode? I had an iPhone with a passcode and it and it got stolen by someone I know. But they know the passcode to get in the phone. If the phone is in lost mode, can they still open the phone with the passcode? Or you you have to disable it through Find my IPhone? I won't report this person but I want to make sure they can't use the phone, even if they have it.
