Does iCloud Backup Take up more space then iTunes backup?

When I backup my iphone on iCloud it takes up 4.7GB of iCloud Storage.

When I backup my iphone on my mac with iTunes it only takes up 2.3Gb

Apple webstie says itunes backup will backup your phone exactly as it is and that iCloud only backs up important information.

So why does backing my iphone take 4.7GB of iCloud space but backing up my iphone with itunes takes up only 2.3gb of space on my mac?

ICloud backs up your applications, app history and important system files if in the event you wish to restore it after putting it back to factory settings.ITunes just backs up your applications, contacts, videos/photos.

  • Will buying more iCloud space let me download more apps, songs, and photos? So i have deleted apps that i don't really need and deleted songs i don't listen to but still there's not enough space to even take a photo, A pop up comes up that says to manage my icloud storage. Would purchasing more icloud storage allow me to download more apps and have more songs and pictures on my iPhone 4 from sprint? It is an 8gb i think.
  • Why does my Iphone music take up more space than it should? I have 1831 songs on my Iphone, very little photos or apps. Yet the songs themselves are taking up 11GB of space on my Iphone. Which seems way more than it should be to me. I was wondering why it is taking up so much room and is there any way I can fix this?
  • What is the best way to backup iphone to get more space? I can't update this iphone so I need to remove 3.6GB of photos and 3.2GB of music. I don't use icloud… Should i? Maybe place the phone into the computer and use itunes to backup and remove?
  • More you use an app the more space it takes up on iPhones and iPads? I have an iPad and new iPhone 5 that I just got. I have rhapsody on both the same app and amount of music basically (iPad as seven more songs on app) but on the iPad the rhapsody app takes up 2.8 GB and the iPhone takes up 1.8GB. Why is that? The more use the app the more space it takes up even if you're not adding new content?
