If I have an iPhone with Virgin Mobile, can I switch to AT&T?

Ok so I want to switch my iPhone 4S that's registered with Virgin Mobile and my dad went to go check it out. He said we might switch but I need to change my phone. I want to keep my same phone AND number. But I might just get the iPhone 5, but can I keep my same number even if I moved to another state? But also lol I want to keep all my photos, apps, and everything it's just every time I plug my phone into the wall, it says there's too much data to backup. I have an app with a bunch of music but last time I switched from iPod to iPhone, All my music was lost! My father wants to put all four of my family members in one plan. Should I switch? The only two reasons I want to switch is because AT&T has 4G and I might get the 5. I know it's stupid but l would have to download each 361 songs All OVER again which is really annoying. Anyone have experience with switched from Virgin to AT&T? It's more pricey but my brothers phone is broken and my mom's doesn't really work that much since they don't have a tower for that company.
