Yeah fortunately i do know the answer: If you restore (i think by that you mean delete all data… I think) it WILL speed it up, other ways are by deleting MOST mail in your mail app, go into the multi tasking bar and removing the apps, deleting messages in the imessage app, and the notification menu.
