If i take the sim card out a iphone is it unlocked from at&t?

Is it still tied to at&t even after I take their sim card out?

Yeah because different phone companies have different sim card sizes and shapes. AT&T has different than other companies, so the phone would only work with AT&T or a company that has the same kind of sim card.
