If I turn on a Verizon iPhone 4s, Is it automatically activated?

My mom wants me to add her songs and apps from iTunes onto her new iPhone, but he doesn't want to activate her phone until she gets a case. So if I turn it on and add songs and apps, is it activated? Or do I have to activate it?

I'm not honestly sure, I think i'm 50/50 on this one. I'm PRETTY SURE you need internet connection to do that.So, if the phone isn't activated then there would be no connection. But no it's not activated at all unless you do it yourself by getting on your online acct and doing that or going to your phone company and doing so

And the seller assured that it is factory unlocked and will work perfectly. Once I finish checking my messages I press the home button. And leave my phone on the home screen then set it down (While it's still on the home screen) and if I walk away for even 15 minutes it's STILL on. It will only turn off if I do it myself. My other iPhone hasn't done this!
