If I use my own home Wi-Fi on my iPhone will that use up my data?

Ok so I got an iPhone and I only have 300 mb on it. I'm using my own Wi-Fi at home and it says that I already used 3.94 of my data. I thought that if you use your own Wi-Fi, data won't be charged. And I put my cellular data off. So is there a way to use your own Wi-Fi and not get charged?

Maybe your Wi-Fi wasn't on. Because Wi-Fi is so you don't use data

Yea the only time you use your data is when you are pulling from your companys towers. So if you just connect your Wi-Fi and turn off your 3G/4G than you will not be charged.

I use my Wi-Fi and it doesn't.

No it will not. And your phone uses internet when you don't even know it so like when you go out your phone gets notifications form 3rd party apps so next time before you leave turn connection to internet on your phone off trust me this helps haha

It won't charge you if you use Wi-Fi. When no Wi-Fi networks are available you will have to connect to 3G if you don't have an iPhone.

Are you sure you were properly connected to your home Wi-Fi? It's all setup properly?

Cos yeah you're right, you shouldn't have been charged at all. Ring your mobile provider and ask for an explanation, because this shouldn't happen. I can only think that perhaps you thought you were connected to Wi-Fi but weren't, for some setup-related reason.

It could be that something else on your phone is using the data through your cellular connection without you realising. Apps can download updates, or check your email, and all sorts of things. These might be happening on your data connection. Check these, it will be easier the less apps you have, though to find everything might take a bit of looking.

Apart from that, call your provider. They might offer the option to cut off your data once you hit your 300MB limit. And ask them for an explanation if you can't find it yourself.
