If I were to win a free iPhone 4S would I still have a data plan to pay for?
I really want an iPhone and I might end up winning one! But if I win an iPhone will I still have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for the data plan?
Unless you didn't want to make calls, then you would have no plan but could use it as Wi-Fi only… If you want to make phone calls, yes all carriers require a data plan
If $30 or so a month is ridiculous to you then yes. Unless it's unlocked and you can put it on a prepaid plan, all major carriers in the US require data plans for the iPhone and all other smartphones.
Yes, you will be paying for air time, which means data and voice. That is if you sign a contract with AT&T. If you decide to go with Simple, or H2O, or any prepaid company, then you won't be paying the data plan.
