IPad mini or iPhone purchase?

My hp laptop is fried and my old Android phone needs replaced. Funds are short presently, so I'm trying to replace both as economically as possible.

iPad mini 16gb Wi-Fi only. NO monthly bills
iPhone4s 16gb from Virgin Mobile. $55/month unlimited everything

The iPad mini is $330 and the iPhone is $380 on sale plus $55/month

Which option should I go with and why? I fear not having text/call option on the ipad, but there are Aps I can do that through, right?

I figure with all the iPad bluetooth devices and AppleTV, I can easily connect either device to my TV if I need a bigger screen. I've graduated college and really only need basic computer functions to find a job.

Definitely a cell phone. I couldn't imagine getting by without a cell phone in times like these. You never know when you will need to make a call and from where. Plus most of the good apps that let you use voice calls for the iPad you have to pay per minute anyways. I know it's more money but if you can afford it the iphone is the best way to go

Easy answer to what you just posted… Get the iphone. Important to know that the Ipad tablet is not a CPU replacement. It won't run all the software you may need down the road.

The iphone is your best bet if you want the ap functions as well as a phone and $55 a month? Crazy great deal as AT&T is killing me for $110 and I don't think they even offer unlimited anymore.

Get the Iphone

They are two completely different things, one is a mobile and one is a tablet. They both have apps, yes. But are used for completely different things. You will most probably still need a phone.

The ipad mini does have a few messaging apps however you will only be able to talk to a small majority of people with those apps, and only when your connected to Wi-Fi. If I was you I would get the Phone. However if you do wish to get a tablet at a lower cost in the future there are allot of other options out there that are not from apple. Have a look at the nexus 7. Voted best tablet of the year and only $307.18 for the 32gb and even less price for the 16gb.

Go with the iphone 4s its basically a little mini ipad it does everything the ipad mini does and it fits on your pocket. There's in fact apps to call and text but they only work with Wi-Fi and after a while your going to finish using the minutes they give you. Also the kindle fire hd its better than the ipad mini search it up on google and youtube and its only 179. My mom offer me to pick any tablet i wanted for christmas and i did a little bit of research on tablets and chose the kindle and let me tell you its amazing so many free games, apps and movies and also books.well good luck choosing your device hope you make a smart decision.

IPhone 4s has new updates to fix its battery improvements. So choose a phone mate. Through apps the other person might not have his/her data or Wi-Fi on all the time. But a text should deliver without any such requirements. So pick a phone!

If you go for the iPad Mini you will have the benefit of having the bigger screen, which is actually an advantage in case you wish to use it for watching movies/reading books/ tv shows/ Internet browsing and all other stuff which requires bigger screen to enjoy better.

iPhone 4s can do all that stuff too but 3.5" screen is pretty small to enjoy these things perfectly.

So IMO iPad Mini is the better option.

For calls you can get a cheap phone too.
