IPhone 3GS stuck on Apple Logo

So I got a used iPhone 3GS and so I reset all the content and settings, via Settings on the iPhone. Now it's stuck on the Apple Logo. How do I get out of the Apple Logo! I've tried these methods so far:
-Holding down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds, then turn it on.
-Holding down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds, then turn it on, then plug in the cable right after. (I can't restore! It says it has a problem, I clicked more information, followed their instructions, still did not get out of the Apple Logo/reset iPhone.)
-Going to "Computer" in Start Menu, right-clicking on iPhone, click format, reset. (The iPhone device did not show up, even though it did show in iTunes.)

Plug your iphone with the cord into your computer, and start up iTunes.It'll automatically start syncing and you should get an option to update your firmware. Click that.

I would connect it to the computer and open itunes as someone else stated here. You can also reset it, etc, but leave it connected to itunes for several hours at least first as it may need charging and may need patching of some sort, itunes usually can fix these types of things.

By the way you said used phone, are you sure someone didn't give you one that had water damage or broken, etc?
