IPhone 4 and AT&T curiosity. Unlocking and?

I have an iPhone 4 that was being used with my carrier, AT&T. Due to being unable to pay off multiple payments, the service was terminated. Family emergencies and such.

I was interested in unlocking it. My boyfriend, who I'll be moving in with has AT&T. I was wondering if by unlocking my iPhone, could I take it in with him and use it with his account then without any of my missed payments being brought into the limelight? Would unlocking it seem like it had never been used before? A clean slate?

Unlocking a phone means its no longer tied to a specific carrier. Since you both have AT&T you don't need to unlock your phone to go on each others plan.

However, going by your story it's possible you have a blocked/black listed phone. That can happen for reasons such as a phone being reported lost or stolen by the rightful owner, or a contractual obligation was not met (your scenario). If that's the case, only paying your fees will unblock it

Thank you, doll.
