IPhone 4 home button doesn't always work? Any ideas why?

I have an iPhone 4. I really like it. But, about 1 or 2 times a week the home button stops working. Sometimes I turn the phone off and turn it on and it works. But if this doesn't work, when I plug it in to a power device, the home button will start working again. Does this happen to any of you? Any suggestions why this happens or how to prevent it?

Probably worn out. The home button gets used probably the most of all of the buttons and it's the only piece of the phone made from plastic.
