IPhone 4 won't connect to iTunes to restore?

I was updating it to the newest software and my laptop over heated and shut off.

Now I turned it back on and my phone has the screen telling my to connect it to iTunes, so I do. And it "extracts" after asking me if I want to restore it because the phone is in recovery mode.
But after it extracts it says there's a failure and it doesn't work and says my iPhone isn't connected to iTunes.
What do I do? Have I royally screwed it up?

Put in dfu mode then restore.

Is it a jailbroken iPhone? If yes, try to put it in DFU mode and then restore it. Here is the link incase you need the steps:

If not try these steps below:

1. Try another USB cord.
2. Restart your computer for a try.
3. Hold the power button, it might restart your iPhone.
4. Update your iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPhone.
If iTunes can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help > run diagnostics.
On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPhone and then restore it.
