IPhone 5 Activation lock bypass

I'm in the ARMY and bought a iPhone 5 a few days ago from another soldier and the activation screen comes on as it was reported lost, I'm not sure if it was before or after he sold it too me I know it's his apple id and he won't give me the password and now won't return our phone calls. I called AT&T and they said they can't help unless he calls up there and to search the internet for answers, more than likely there are ways around it… Help STUCK WITH NO PHONE!

Thank you for the opportunity to answer your question.

Let me start by thanking you for service to our country. And I'm sorry for this situation and it's may not be a happy info to give you on your matter.

iOS 7 activation lock is a safety feature for iOS device owners to keep their iDevices safe from use after lost or stolen and if they are connected to their iCloud account.

Yes, one way is to get their password but most people won't give that information out.

The second way, if you are able to get your battle buddy to answer you. Is to have them go to iCloud.com/find and remove the device from the device list so that it won't ask you for the password and email address any longer.

This may be the option that will work better for him instead of giving out his password.

If you are able to get him to do this. Start over in your activation/setup process and it should not ask you for his information.

Unfortunately, there's no way around this as it would defeat the purpose of the feature. I'm completely aware of the upset this can cause.

Good luck Soldier and thank you for your time.
