Iphone 5 or samsung galaxy s4 active?

I'm about to get my first smart phone for my 16th birthday and I'm not quite sure what to go with. I'm a HUGE fan of apple products, but the debates say that the iPhone is weaker compared to the galaxy. I would mostly be using the phone for texting, email, school, possibly music, pictures, and games. One concern that I have is that the iPhone isn't very waterproof but the galaxy is.
Also, I've heard that the iOS 7 is being released along with the iPhone 5s, but I'm not sure when it is being released. And I love the design of the iOS 7.

Iphone is weaker spec and feature wise to the S4, but makes up for it in build quality and simplicity of it's os. A good trade off, but not really would be the HTC One. Top of the line specs and similar if not better build quality than the iphone, it's a phone you won't mind to be stuck with for the next 2 years.

Iphone has the best security, imessage, siri, best apps, facetime, and is the nicest design. Plus, the new iphone is probably coming during the Sept 10 meeting.

Don't ever just go by specs, iphone hardware is far better design. Thats why their battery is so much smaller and thinner yet still runs just as long as phones that try to put a car battery in it. Its also why its so much better performance with game playing.
