Yes, but it can be tricky, tracfone and a few others are owned by the same company. There contract they have only allows some phones to be on there network because they buy from Verizon etc. So this is a work around if your phone is unlocked get the proper sim and try it online if it does not work, take that sim and activated in a different phone then put it back in the iphone 5. Yes it sucks but that is what I did went to walmart bought a tracfone with the same sim size and used that info to activate the sim and then returned the phone.
