IPhone 5S backlight broken after screen replacement?

So back in December I cracked the screen to my iPhone 5S that I had only had for around 2 months. I was not a happy camper. So after a month, I was able to buy a replacement screen with the intention of repairing the screen myself. So I received the screen and replaced it as instructed in a video on youtube. Everything was going fine till I closed up the phone after the replacement. The screen lit up, but the home button wasn't right. So I opened up the phone again and re watched the video and found what I did wrong, and I fixed it and once again closed up my phone. Then I realized that something was wrong with the glass. The metal frame around it was not glued on well resulting in some parts of the glass being raised up from it. So I thought I could open it up again and fix that. So I did, attempted to fix it, closed it back up and turned it on again. But once I turned it on it was barely visible. I could barely make out the apple logo on the screen. Somehow during everything I must have messed up the backlight port inside the phone. As when I put back my older cracked one, I get the same effect. It's safe to say that I'm absolutely furious at myself for this. I can't take it to Apple to repair, cause it's voided the warranty, and no repair place fixes the 5S's yet, let alone the problem that I'm having. So my question is: Has anyone else had this problem happen to them? Have you fixed it? How? Because of this I have no phone to use what so ever.

I suggest you drop it it water and then drop it on concrete several times. Then return it to your carrier's store (assuming you have insurance on it). Although this may seem sarcastic, it's better to not have a phone for a few days while a replacement is issued than to have a broken phone. Furthermore, attempting to repair electronics by yourself generally voids any and all warranty, and dropping it in water / in concrete generally is covered by a carriers insurance.

Good Luck!

P.S. It is necessary to do both because water damage will explain the back-light not working and dropping it on concrete will explain why the seal has been broken on the shell, as well as anything else wrong with it. Just be sure to call your insurance provider to ensure that they will cover these types of damages before-hand using someone else's phone number (so as to not raise any red-flags by using your "broken" phone)

iThink you have to install a new backlight. I suggest yo use this one.

  • Verizon iPhone 4 stuck on shutter after screen replacement? Only rear camera works? After replacing a cracked screen on a verizon iphone 4 the frontfacing camera is stuck on shutter, while the rear camera only works sometimes… I have tried checking the connections, as well resetting everything and even restoring. I have heard about possibly jumping something on the logic board but can't find where, a picture would be great.
  • Replacement for broken screen iPhone? I have an iPhone 5s and when I was walking it slipped out of my hand and the screen got broken badly? Can I replace it? And is it for free? Can you also replace it if it got lost or stolen? And can you upgrade it to another phone if any of these problems happen? Also the big question: If you do have to pay for replacement is it the same amount of money you bought the 5s as for replacement?
