IPhone 5S charger won't work on laptop but works with wall outlet?

I tried to import music into my phone, but my laptop won't detect it. I used my brother's iPhone 4 and it works perfectly. I need help finding a way to make my computer detect my iPhone.

I think you have to update iTunes. The same thing happened when I got the 5th gen iPod touch. When I updated iTunes, it worked fine. Otherwise, I don't know.

When it finally turns on after being plugged in it tells me my phone needs to be restored and that it can't make or receive calls until so, well great but, when i unplug it from the wall it immediately turns off and will not turn on when plugged into my computer. I've tried different USB cables but none of them work.

I tried the wall charger and it would only charge for like a second.same with the usb charger. I don't have time to buy anything at the moment i just need instructions, please.

It connects to my iPhone just fine but never connects to my laptop anymore, what's wrong with my computer?
