The iPhone is a telephone.
The MacBook Air or MacBook Pro is a notebook computer.
If you want to have something for letters, homework papers, watching movies larger than a post-card, buy a computer. If you need to make phone calls, buy a phone.
Get the MacBook and a cheap phone, you will mostly lose or break whatever phone you get, in a year or less.
