The major carriers don't do contracts anymore. You just pay for the phone outright in installments. As for the cost, $1000 for the + version (assuming the current model lineup stays the same) is a fair guess if the rumors about the phone hold true.

The 8+ top of the line will probably costs around 1000$. The 7+ 256 gb jet black is about 970.
The 8 is supposed to use an oled screen which is more expensive.
