IPhone 8 battery swelling
So I just got the iPhone 8 and first thing I read when I activate my phone all happy is a report of swollen batteries is this a hoax or is it true? And if it's true can I use my device while charging? I just paid 800 for a device I don't want to have to get a new one
There have been a small number of reports of the iPhone 8 battery swelling up. Have you own an iPhone before? Were you also aware that some iPhones also caught fire like the Samsung Note 7? If you owned an iPhone before then did you take special precautions to prevent if from catching on fire? I highly doubt that
Basically, what I'm getting at is the number of reports is so low that you shouldn't really worry about it. Anything with a battery can swell up, explode, catch fire etc, that's just one of the hazards of using batteries. If you let it get to you then you probably shouldn't be using any form of electronics with a battery in them.
It can happen to any device that uses a lithium based battery. If yours is not swelling then you don't have to worry!
Its not a hoax, but is also a limited issue. Haven't heard about it for more than a week. So no, its not like every iPhone 8 will have their batteries swell & ruin the phone.
You could use your iPhone while charging, like every iPhone ever.
Even if your iPhone ends up being one of those affected you'd of course get any fix/replacement for free.
Yeah, it's happening. No real word from Apple yet. Here's a pic of one that came into Best Buy for warranty exchange.

Place a brick and 2 paper towels on the screen then pound it down with a hammer. The brick and paper towels protects the screen getting shattered. The battery should snap back in.
