Iphone battery dying at 20%? Why?

For some reason, I've been using my Iphone 4S and once it hits 20%, it turns off. I plug in the charger and it takes about a minute for the phone to turn on again. This has never happened before. I've tried looking for answers and it's told me to do a battery calibration which I don't know how to do.

Here is how to do so streight from Apple support:
Calibrate iPhone Battery:
Use the iPhone until it it shuts OFF itself, due to Low Battery. Then Charge it back up without interruption, like unplugging it, to full charge 100%. Then before or after you do this, Reset iPhone, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone restarts itself, ignore the "slide to power off slider", let the iPhone restart itself.
