So I'm using windows 10, and its not just my iPhone headphones its doing this to its also my gaming headphones as well. I have plugged them in to the correct port and windows is detecting them being plugged in, all my drivers are up to date, everything is unmuted, and I've searched high and low for how to fix this. The only time my "mic" picks up any sound is when I talk into the headphones and no the mic part. I'm pulling my hair out over this they work correctly on my laptop but not on my pc

The earbuds are probably only plugged into the headphone jack. You can't use a microphone through that.

All normal HiFi and computer connections with 3.5mm plugs and sockets use standard "stereo" plugs that have been around for decades.

They have three contacts, a ground plus two signals, usually left/right audio
(or mic and power in a PC microphone socket).

Each function, in or out on the equipment, has a separate socket.

Headsets for phones and tablets use a special four-contact plug, that allows ground, left, right and microphone all in one, to save space.

They are (usually) interchangeable with stereo types just for headphones use, but when you put that into a normal stereo socket, the microphone contact does not connect to anything.

To swap between PC gear that uses two stereo sockets and the phone style single-plug items, you need an adapter cable.

eg.Something like this:

That takes the mike connection from the extra contact on the the headset plug and splits it out to the tip contacts on a second stereo plug, where it should be for general equipment.

  • Why does my Ipad's ear buds have such a static sound? I record videos on my Ipad using iphone ear buds plugged into the audio port, but when I listen to the video, there's this annoying almost static-sounding white noise that is distracting. Its constant. I don't know how to stop this, to get clearer audio. Any tips?
  • Which ear-buds should I get? I want some nice ear buds with good sound quality and good bass. I listen to a lot of dubstep, metal, nintendocore, and screamo. I would like headphones that are very nice quality. My price range is $150 and under. I'll be using these with my Iphone. What is the best choice?
  • Should I buy new Iphone ear buds or a different brand? I accidentally put my Iphone ear buds in a cup of tea while they were plugged into my computer (lol) and of course they didn't take it too well… I want to buy a new pair, should I get a new Iphone ones (heard they're really expensive) or are they not worth the money, should I get a different brand? What do you think?
  • My iPhone thinks my headphones are plugged in? My iPhone thinks my headphones are plugged in so the speaker is not working. When I change the volume a screen appears saying that the headphone volume is changing. I can't watch videos or listen to music and when I'm in a call I have to put the phone on speaker. I've already tried turning it off and on as well as actually plugging in my headphones and taking them back out. Neither worked
