IPhone in water, screen doesn't work. Can it be fixed?

I dropped my phone in the sink which was full of water/dishes. I grabbed it out immediately but it was fully submerged. The phone still works, I'm getting texts and alerts, but the screen won't work. I can see everything but the touch screen isn't working. I can't even slide it to unlock it. I will try the rice thing but I'm wondering if it would work on the screen, or if I need to replace the screen. Or buy a new phone:/

Switch it off and put it into a jar of dry rice in a warm place, you may be lucky and the rice will absorb the moisture and it will work again

You might have to replace the digitizer over the screen itself.
Anytime a phone is dropped in water,
immediately remove the battery, and let it dry out.
However, you can't do that with IPhone's,
so turn it off, and leave it off until it's absolutely dried out.

A hair dryer on mild setting can be useful, or see it on a car dashboard in the sun. Remove any protective covering, case, and screen film. Only do that for a short period, you don't want to cook it.
After that, put it in a small container and cover it with rice (raw uncooked). Leave it in overnight, then remove it, dust it off and power it up. Clean the screen and apply a new protection film.

I've dropped phones in swimming pools. Dove in and retrieved them, and have recovered their functionality by using above method. Most important thing is to not turn it on, until dry. People try to immediately power them on to check them, after they get wet, and end up frying the circuitry.
