IPhone update/activation

The last time I updated my phone, it was to 4.2? And I just got the latest update. Unfortunately, iTunes won't "finish" the update. By that I mean the update is finished, but when I go to activate my phone again, it says the session has timed out. I've tried rebooting iTunes, my iPhone, my computer, I reinstalled iTunes, but it still says the session has timed out. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, that's been a common problem if you've got an iPhone 4 or older and are updating to the latest OS (occasional problem with 4S's). If you're getting the Apple icon, it means there's an update error.

The good news is that it's not that hard to fix; the catch is that you need to reset your phone to factory settings, and use a Restore from iTunes to reconfigure. If you didn't do a backup to your computer or iCloud before you ran the update, I hate to say it, but you're essentially screwed.

Of course it depends on your particular error, but that description sounds all too familiar. In my case, I had the phones I was working with backed up to both places and was able to reset/restore without any problem.

  • Will my iPhone 4 ask for another activation if I update to iOS 7? Recently, my dad gave me his SIM-locked iPhone 4 because he had a new one. I inserted my SIM of the same network provider and it functioned well. When I did a full reset of the phone (which was iOS 6.1.3), it asked me for activation, so I had to borrow my dad's SIM. Now my phone's activated and is again functioning well. If I update to iOS 7 after its official release, will it again ask me for another activation? I don't really want to give another problem to my dad.
  • Update stopped during ios update own iphone now phones broke I connected my iPhone 4 to my computer (iTunes) and started doing the update through iTunes. About five minutes into the update iTunes in my computer stops working, causing the update to of course stop working. Now my phone will not turn on. On the screen it is black with the 'charge symbol' as if it were low on battery and an iTunes symbol. I have tried turning my phone off and on, but of course it didn't respond.
  • New iOS 6 update, find my iPhone update? I don't like the new find my iPhone update is there a way to change back to the old find my iPhone but keep the new update? It's not showing locations like it used to and won't even how me major boroughs like Croydon. Streets are difficult to see, much smaller picture. General *** compared to the older version.
  • Is the iOS 6.1 update on iPhone 3 safe to update? On my first iPhone there were problems, and the update didn't help it wiped out everything and among other things had to get a new iPhone. The iPhone I have now works, so should I risk this update? It's a 3GS.
