IPhone won't receive messages from people unless they have verizon?

I got a new iPhone today with Verizon. Before that phone, I had a blackberry with Boost Mobile, so I decided that it would be easier to just keep my same number. But now when non-Verizon customers text me, my iPhone doesn't receive it but my Blackberry does. So basically people can get my texts from my iPhone but I can't get theirs.
So should I take it back to the Verizon store, or is there a quick-fix solution?

Take it back.

You're certain they are sending you texts, and not bbms? Bbm obviously won't work on an iphone

  • Will a person receive text messages on iPhone once they power phone back on? When I text a friend of mine, sometimes their texts show up green when I text him (we both have iPhones and messages are normally blue)… Once their phone gets powered back on will the text messages I send when the phone is off b received once the phone is turned back on?
  • Why won't my verizon iPhone 5 send messages to certain people? I have a friend who has verizon and it sends messages to him very fast and I have friends who have different carriers and it won't send to them. The send bar keeps on going and stops at the last second. I have turned it off and on again and I have reset my network settings. Nothing has worked at all.
  • Why don't I receive messages unless my cellular data is on? I got this iPhone 3 months ago. It's the 5th one. This constant problem is that sometimes I don't get messages unless my Cellular data is turned on. I need to fix this cause its really annoying. Like for example 10 ppl texted me on Christmas Day saying merry Christmas. On January 4 I turned on cellular data while in my car & then I got them all! And it's crazy because It had the date of Christmas & the exact time.
  • Why does my iphone not receive group messages unless 4g is on? When I'm at home and I'm using Wi-Fi I always turn off cellular data because I don't want to accidentally be using up my data, but whenever it is off I never receive group messages until I turn it back on? Why does it so this and can I make it so I can still receive group messages when only using Wi-Fi?
