Iphone is a really good phone to get. And yes lots of people just get it because its popularity and because they trust apple. I think the iphone is boring with out jailbreak what makes it really good are the apps from the appstore.
There should be an iphone for free on ATT but if you are getting an iphone i would recommend getting the iphone 5 right away.
