Is iPhone 7 camera quality better than a Canon G7X?

No. The G7x has a larger image sensor and allows far more user control.

The iP7 camera is fine, but offers little user control, and produces over-processed images. Like all tiny image sensors, dark areas of every photo have excessive image noise and hiding that produces unpleasant image artefacts. The larger image sensor of the G7x produces much "cleaner" images to begin with so has far less image noise. The lens is more versatile and allows greater depth of field effects. If the battery runs down whilst ising the camera it only takes a few seconds to swap the rechargeable battery over for a freshly charged one. The G8x will also take better photos in low light conditions.

But if you're entirely happy with your phone camera, never notice the image noise and processing artefacts, and find that it does a good enough job for everything you take photos of then you don't need a better camera and may even resent the extra though and effort needed to get the best from a better camera.
