Is it a waste of money to buy the iPhone 6 plus?

I would really like a device big enough to do all my reading and gaming on one device. I currently have the iPhone 5 which I can sell to my brother for about $250 but I Really want the iPhone 6 plus except it's $750. That's $500 out of pocket excluding tax and phone case which would bring it up to $550. Is that really worth it? Or perhaps I should do Apple financing and just pay off the phone so it doesn't seem like too much.

Btw I'm currently 19, in college with tuition paid for and around 10k in bank account. Based upon this, is it worth it?

Honestly I don't really see much difference in the Iphone 6 to the Iphone 5S. So I would say not really worth it. If you want a good phone for reading and such I know it is a little extra but why don't you go for something like the Galaxy S5? And you don't have to worry about breaking it either because it is covered by Water Resistance and Dust Resistance. You should check out some videos on Youtube. Just to see, you may be surprised.

It'll be cheaper to keep your current phone and get an iPad or iPad mini to do gaming on.

Being "worth it" has nothing to do with your age, education or account balance.

If you want it and are willing to pay for it, then it's "worth it". If you don't want it and feel it costs too much, then it's not.

Your age, what you do, and how much money you have in the bank are non factors.

If you want the iPhone Plus, get it. If you are going to buy any smartphone, pay for it outright, then it's your from day one. Get some sort of insurance on it, to cover it getting lost, stolen or damaged. Be that cell phone insurance, or adjusting your renters insurance to cover All your electronics for REPLACEMENT value, if you have not already done so (and if you are 19, you never even thought of doing that).

Have mom and dad adjust homeowners insurance to cover All your electronics when away from home for REPLACEMENT value.

Get your car insurance adjusted to cover portable electronics that might leave in the care for REPLACEMENT value.

Get a decent case or covers for using when out and about. If you happen to be Mr Butter Fingers, get a pouch style case with a lanyard and actually USE IT.

And the key to any cell phone with a large screen and thin body… Do not toss it onto a over stuffed chair, bed, bean bag chair or couch and sit on it. Especially one of those flying leap type jumps, with a half twist and but plant.

It really depends if you like the phablet size or not. You may want to go to the Apple store and look at them in person first to see which one you like most.
