Is it legal for my parents to ground my brother for being gay?

My brother is 17 and my parents said until he moves out he isn't allowed to leave the house except for work or school. They took his TV and replaced his iPhone with a flip phone that doesn't have an internet browser. Should I call the police? Is this abuse?

It's not physical abuse, it's mental. But still he is not old enough legally to be on his own, and they can always say that this is their way of parenting. My mother used to ground me for a whole year without pc or going out when I was younger just because I had one bad grade sooo… He will be fine, just don't let him make this a big deal later in his life

If they feed him, clothe him and put a roof over his head, they don't need to do anything else. An iphone and tv is above and beyond what your parents must do so no, it is not abuse.

It's very very legal

I don't think it's technically illegal, as in you can't charge them with anything. But isolating him by not allowing him to see his friends or use the Internet simply because he's gay is mental abuse. Let him know you support him and watch for signs of depression. They'll probably loosen their rules with time, but if they don't, they're only fostering a bad relationship with him. Make sure he can get out of the house if he needs to, especially once he's 18.

What your parents are doing isn't physical abuse, but it is a rather stupid and petty form of mental abuse. So what if he's gay? Do they think that will "cure" him or teach him a lesson? Once your brother turns 18 they won't be able to ground him.

Computers weren't until I was out of high school, so it's hard for me to say what is reasonable. As long as they aren't taking his paychecks though, it's legal. What they are doing is not going to "cure" him though.

What they're doing is not illegal, but it's not going to change anything. They can't punish him out of being gay.

Assuming you're not a troll, your parents are being incredibly stupid. In this day and age, only really mentally dim people think taking your kid's TV and Internet is somehow going to make him stop being gay. That's such an implausible idea that I have trouble believing your story.

Of course it is silly child. Your brother is a CHILD still therefore he has no say in anything. Its not abuse at all. He can't own anything and since its nto abuse to take things away that a child doesn't need there's nothing any one can do. A TV is not a need. Books are not a need. A phone is not a need. And he doesn't own them since he's still a child so he has no right to have them and no right to stop your parents from taking them.

As unfair as it is, it is sadly legal. I feel bad for your brother, just be there the best you can to support him. If he's 17 he can move out when he's 18 and get a better life.
otherwise, try to talk to your parents about it and tell them they're doing something wrong, stick up for him

  • My iphone 5 was frozen to the ground? I fell and I didn't realize my phone fell out of my pocket until we got home, so we went back and it was frozen to the ground. It wasn't really wet but there were like 2 medium sized drops of water on the screen. Would it be okay to turn it on?
  • Is it ok to use a iPhone you found on the ground? I found a iPhone 4 on the ground at the beach. I reset the whole phone to the way you would find it if it was new. It was from Verizon wireless and I had the same phone company to. I wanted to know if its ok to connect it to my plan. Would they ask me to return it or give it to a store or something? Could I get in trouble? Do I have to wait a certain amount of time to connect it?
  • I think my brother's stole money? Money has went missing from my mum's room and my little brother has just came in with a new iPhone 6, he says his girlfriend is letting him use her old iPhone. I feel like he might of stole the money and bought a iPhone but I've checked the warranty on the iPhone and it ends October this year so he might not be lying or he might of bought the phone second hand. I don't want to blame him for it unless I have proof. Can anyone think of anything I can do
  • I found a iphone on the ground? And i'm not sure if I should keep it cause of the possability of it being tracked but if I kept it how can I use it?
