Is owning an apple product a status symbol?
Some of the people I've talked to compare iphones, macs, ipads etc as a mercedes benz or lexus. They described android or PCs etc as a honda or toyota
They said driving a luxury car is a status symbol. The cars are nice yet
driving a honda or toyota does the same stuff but without breaking the bank.
What do you think?
Added (1). The analogy wasn't for a comparison. It was a metaphor. I'm not saying ipads are priced the same as a Mercedes but rather apple is becoming as much of a status symbol as owning a luxury car.
Added (2). @Maia I totally agree. I was reading an article earlier today and it was talking about how much profit apple has made off their products. It was 54% profit margin last year!

I'm the least "techy" person in the world. I bought a MacBook Pro 6 years ago and I love it. It works way better than my old PC. But it says nothing about me as a person. It's just a computer.
But I've been told by a few guys that women notice their new iPhone and stylish case for it. And other people are always asking about it & wanting to see it. It's like a sports car or something. That's pretty pathetic.
I think so, because apple products are well-known products that are certainly not cheap. Iphones, for example are for sure fancy, but for $600? There are much cheaper phones, that do basically the same as iphones for a more affordable price. So yes, I would say owning an apple product can be a status symbol.
As for android, unlike apple, their company has a wide range of phones, from cheap $50 phones to expensive $500 phones ( Like the Samsung galaxy s3). Because of this and due to the fact android has not been a well-known company for a long time. Andorid has been labled simple, but it is certainly not always ''simple'' like Hondas or toyotas.
No, not at all. I hate apple… I like ipods but anything apple i strongly dislike.
There's a reason Louis Vuitton Hennessy Moet is one of the top 10 biggest businesses in the world. Fashion is a status symbol to MOST people, therefore it is a TOP-tier multi-billion dollar industry. There are designers that are worth more than George Lucas. Yeah, the creative mind that made "Star Wars" is worth less than the woman designer/entrepreneur who started the "Prada" label. She beats him by 2 billion.
I don't know much about Apple -- only that I and every other teen wants an iPad -- But whoever was in charge of marketing their brand is a genius. They have managed to make Apple into a fashion label.
PS. I want one, but everyone who's informed knows deep down that Microsoft is better… Can you believe the company makes $10M ever few hours? Angry Birds made that amount in a year, yet it's still more socially accepted than bringing your Microsoft laptop to the coffee shop… Everyone surrounding you will look at you funny
- Why doesn't my iPhone show the 4G symbol but it shows the LTE symbol? I have Verizon as a carrier, and I just aksed this question but didn't ask it right. YES I HAVE 4G LTE. I've had the phone for 2 months and have been many places with it. It only shows the circle, 3G, and the LTE symbol, but not 4G or the Edge symbol. If anyone knows why, please let me know.
- Why are Apple products considered a status symbol? Maybe they were at some point, but why is it still considered one when everybody and their cousin has an iPhone? From 6th graders to celebrities…
- What's the difference from an OEM product and an original product? I need a new charger for my iPhone and I don't know if I should go buy an OEM charger from eBay or go buy an actual apple charger from Walmart that's going to be way more expensive. Since OEM is basically the same thing without retail packaging, would there be a difference in quality?
- What are the benefits of owning a new iPhone and a new iPod? If you already have a new iPhone with decent storage, would it benefit you significantly to get an iPod for music? Could you get something less expensive if what you wanted was just a bunch of easily available portable music storage?
