Obsolete to who… To you? To all your friends? Or to what you " think " you must have the latest and the greatest? Or you will be shunned by others?

It can only be updated to iOS 6 (iOS 9 is the current version) and so will not run the latest apps that require features included in the later versions of iOS.

Good phone during its time and still good for just texting or calling, but it has to run an old OS so almost all apps no longer support it.

Going by mine (still running iOS 5.1.1 'cos I don't like Apple Maps, since having Google Maps was main I bought it + my iPod Touch before it)…

Facebook app (old version) still works, but the Phone + OS is too old to install & run Facebook messenger.

Twitter app (old version) still works

Instagram… Never been able to get the thing to work on my iPhone, but "earlier compatible version" seems to work fine on my iPad that's still running iOS 5.1 (don't like Apple maps, or the new icons on latest iOS)

Youtube quit working ages ago on it (same with my first gen Apple TV + iPad), and the new app won't install either (and supposed to be pants anyway).

UK National Lottery app doesn't work any more… Tries to force an update on me, but update not compatible.

Well it's obsolete. The thing came out in 2009. That last major update was in 2012 with iOS 6, which has been discontinued for a while now.

Apps like Instagram and Facebook won't install since they require iOS 7 or newer. The only way that you could download those apps is if you had previously downloaded them while they were in their older versions. If you've never download an app from the App store, then there's no way to get them easily. The next thing that you can do is to jailbreak the iPhone, install Appsync, download the last version of the App that's compatible with iOS 6, install it through iFunBox or App Cake.

Personally, I would not get it. If you must use an older model, try an iPhone 4, but I'd consider getting the 4S or newer.

Yes it's rubbish. The 4S is pretty much down the toilet due to the size, lack of features, the fact it struggles with new updates, etc.
