Is the iPhone 8 front camera the same as the 7 front camera?
I have noticed that they both have a 7mp camera but didn't know if the 8 was slightly better

The improvements with the 8's cameras come mostly through software & processing.
You need to understand that these camera modules cost about $12-$15 which is downright cheap by anyone's standards. The difference between one $15 camera and another is not going to be anything that will be noticeable, especially for those who only post to the internet and don't make prints.
