Is this illegal or just morally wrong? What should i do?

So before i explain, this is about something that my friend did and not me. At my friend's job, someone left an iphone behind on the counter when placing an order. My friend took the iphone and when the customer came back looking for it, he told him he didn't see it. He, and 2 coworkers now plan to sell it online and split the money 3 ways. They removed te sim card soi t couldnt be tracked. Is my friend going to get in trouble for this or is it impossible for someone to do anything since the sim card is out? I can't really report it to my manager because my friend and i work at separate places. It just kinds upsets me that my friend would take advantage advantage of someone like this. What's should i do?

What part of illegal do not your friend understand?
It is called theft of stolen property over $300. A felony. A federal offence if they sell it on line since the internet crosses state lines.
Have your friends to the right thing and turn it into the cops or management.
Remember you can chose your friends but not your out laws and family.
Get a better set of friends.
You need to the management about this since if they can steal a customer's iphone, they can steal from the company.
Since you have knowledge if this, you could be charge as an accessory before the fact, as well. If they get caught and they will.
Just because you and your friend work in separate areas but you work for the same company so stop with the excuse you can't report it to the management.
. This is conspiracy when the one is going to share the profits from the sale with the other two co-workers.
I makes me wonder if your three co-workers have been taking from the company, as well.
Thieves have a tendency to point fingers at who was to blame when caught by the long arm of the law.
They tend to snitch on each other, when the deal falls though and over money, the green stuff. (experience from my last Profession at jail, LMDC).

Yes, your friend's actions are both illegal and morally wrong. On a different point, I would strongly recommend that you drop this person as a friend. Its not a good idea to be friends with a criminal. You could either be this person's next victim, or he could falsely implicate you in a crime.

I'd just be quiet, you know you can't always tell if someone is a thief, can you. Just do your life, and let it be their loss to have stooped so low. So many people have no jobs and kids to support, and yet these employees acted like dirt without remorse at all. Criminal minds usually get it in the long haul!

Tell your "friend" that every phone has a unique serial number. Once the unsuspecting buyer tries to start up service on the phone, it will be immediately flagged as stolen. Even if you can't report this to his manager, you can call your local police and report this anonymously.

100% illegal.

And you call this person a friend? Better not trust him over at your place, or with any of your items. Theft is ILLEGAL no matter how it is contorted.

All of it is wrong, legally and morally.

If you Really felt that bad about it, you would have confronted your friend.

I honestly hope he gets caught on camera. I would suggest telling your boss to review the tapes, what he did was wrong, and yes, it'll cost your friend his job- but he doesn't deserve it.

If the same thing happened to you, how would you feel if you were the customer? How would you want the situation handled?

He could have had really important photos or messages on it- those are PRICELESS. If I lost my phone, I wouldn't be mad about not having a phone, it's all of the extra stuff like my photos I could never get back, that would upset me.

Changing out the SIM card won't make any difference. There's a serial number and other identifying numbers burned into the phone at the Apple factory that the Apple can track. Apple can then remotely nuke the phone. If GPS is ever turned on then they can locate it as well.

The phone is not tracked from the SIM card. There's s built in device to find the phone via gps and lock it down.

What your friend did was illegal and stupid. Find new friends.

It's illegal. They stole the phone.

Of course it is illegal, it is called stealing and then of course selling stolen property is handling, also illegal… Suggest you choose you 'friends' more carefully

Stop being his friend. He's a thief.

It is illegal. It is called theft.

  • Just cracked my iPhone 5 (just got 2 weeks ago)? Like in the title just cracked the screen and wondering what my next step is? Some say its a free replacement since I just got it. Replacement at the apple store, but I know th warranty doesn't cover this since it is an accidental damage. Very confused and so pissed if I have to pay for a brand new one this is just a few weeks brand new.
  • Is there something wrong with my phone or is there something wrong with my mom's phone? Ok so when I attempt to call my mom, it doesn't ring it just goes straight to voicemail but doesn't show on my mom's phone that she had a missed called. My messages won't go through either, but her calls and messages come through to me. We both have iPhones and they are both on. I can text everyone else, call everyone else but her.
