Is what this person said to me and insult or not?

I was at work and this person I work with was asking me pretty personal questions about my life. He wanted details from every answer I gave him. I told him from his questions that yes this is an iphone 5 and my parents own a dry cleaning business but it has been around over 30 years and it has been making a lot of money over the years especially this year. He then answered back by saying no wonder you have a $500 dollar phone. I didn't know how to respond to that so I just replied with yeah. But thinking about and telling my friends about it, I kinda get the impression that he was trying to insult me or something. I don't know. What do you guys think?

He just sounds resentful. It really depends on how he said it, was it jokingly with a little laugh, or more of a grumble, or just musing aloud? Or did he huff a little and roll his eyes?

I wouldn't take it as an insult, he's just jealous over the phone but he is just curious about you and trying to get to know you. Some of my best friends I've met at work.

Sounds like an insult to me.

No, it doesn't sound like an insult to me. But I guess I'm a cynical person, for I'm leery of someone asking personal questions, especially if the questions involve money, possessions, etc. I think I would be careful if I were you.
