ITunes savvy people needed please

Okay so I've been deleting individual songs from my iPhone because I only want certain songs from this artist to save space. So I delete them but every time I sync my iPhone, they get downloaded right back on to it. How do I keep these songs off my phone without having to keep deleting them every time I plug my phone into my computer?

When you plug your iPhone into your computer, it should show up in iTunes. I believe on the new iTunes it will show up in the upper right. Click on the iPhone button and it will display info about your iPhone. You should see a picture of it and on the bottom of iTunes should be a bar that shows your memory usage. On the bar at the top, there should be a button that says music. Click it and see what you have checked. It could be checked that you want to sync all songs or maybe specific artist or albums. Anyway.uncheck anything you don't want, check stuff you do want, and at the bottom of iTunes with the memory bar, click "Apply" and these changes will be synced and saved on your iPhone.

When you connect your phone, in iTunes, select it in the left-hand area. It should show a summary of your phone's info. There will be a tab entitled 'music'. Click this, and here you can set how you want your music to sync. You can have all of the music on your computer sync to your phone (which sounds like the current setting; which you don't want), you can manually select individual playlists or artists, genres, etc. To sync, or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can turn off syncing altogether and manage your songs manually (I.e.drag them to your phone to add them, and delete what you don't want manually; it'll stay deleted).
