ITunes won't update/install?

I purchased an iPhone 6S today and as I went to connect it to my laptop, I noticed my iTunes software version is out of date (v.12.2.2) and every time I go to install the latest version, I get through the installer, but at the end there's a popup saying 'A later version of Apple Software Update is already installed on this computer.' I rang Apple support, and they said I needed to upgrade to Windows 10 in order to update iTunes, but I can't do this as my computer is linked with my school.

Is upgrading to Windows 10 the only way to update iTunes to 12.3? If not, could someone please guide me to some instructions because I can't figure out a possible solution.

ITunes 12.3 adds support for Windows 10 but it should still work with Windows 7 and 8. If you are running a 64 bit version of Windows you will need the 64 bit version of iTunes too. If it is a school computer you should ask them before installing/updating anything on it.

I have a win 7 computer running iTunes version 12.3.2.35 so no you don't have to have Win 10

  • Why can't I download and install iPhone update? I have an iphone 4s, currently version 5.1.1 (never bothered to update), and I want to update it to ios 6.1.1 (I have a notification on my iPhone settings). It says that I must have at least 2.8GB of data available, I've checked and I have this exact amount of data free… However, the button on the software update page saying 'download and install' is greyed out and I can't click on it. On top of that, when I go to install a new tweak, after the install is finished, the installer will stay stuck on loading… Please help me.   • Iphone asking me for a passcode to install update. I never set up a passcode. Options? I just tried to update my iphone to 7.1.1 and i'm being asked for a passcode. I never set one up, but entered what I would have made it, and now have a message saying "FAILED. One more attempt". What happens if I get this final attempt wrong? How do I continue with update if I can't remember this passcode?
