Just got my first smartphone (iPhone 3GS), what apps should I get?
I got the 3GS as it's a cheap first smartphone but I don't know all the common uses smartphones are put to. What uses/apps do you recommend? Can you recommend a good racing game that will run on the 3GS?

A lot of apps have been Updated and only run On ios5 upwards.
If you have ios 4.x then you can upgrade ut for free (read instructions on itunes).
Anyway yo can try these:
Amazon, ebay, tunein radio, thetrainline, iplayer (can be got thru safari if can't download). Facebook are good starts
Also checkout podcasts on the ipod. Comedy, bbc radio documentaries, the unexplained - all great

- Just got my first iPhone, how do I close apps to save battery? I have always had android phones and last had the htc evo. I always had an app/widget called task killer that I would tap and it would close all my running apps. Today I got my first iPhone 4 and see there are no such apps however I know I have a ton of things running, how can I close them out/save battery?

- Is the iPhone 5 a good 'first smartphone'? So I'm looking to get my first smartphone. I'm not really a noob to smartphones but I've never actually owned one. I have an iPod touch 4gen and I use up all my 8 GB's. I like apps, I plan to have music on my phone, and I want everything in it. I take lots of pictures too. Would an iPhone 5 be a good investment? Or should I go with the 4S?
