Lithium ion batteries?
Will a lithium ion battery explode if it is dead, i'm looking to replace my basically non-existant battery life iphone battery and i'm concerned with the risks of possible damaging it during removal.
No, you just "peel" the old one off the double sided tape that holds it in and put a new one in place of it.
I've done quite a few and never had any problems.
Just be patient while removing the battery and use a wide plastic tool if you need to apply leverage, not a screwdriver or anything that could puncture the battery casing.
If you buy a battery that comes with a typical iphone tool kit, the guitar plectrum is a suitable "assister" tool to help unstick the old battery.
Watch the videos on youtube first as well so you know exactly what does or does not need removing for access.

- Iphone 5 shutdown even with batteries? So a while ago, i slipped on the stairs while i had my phone on the back pocket. Now it seems to shutdown everytime the batteries hit around 20-30 percents and the music/ipod would freeze and being unresponsive. How do I fix this? My warranty has expired already.
