Lock button broke on IPhone. How can I get it to turn on if it turns off?

I dropped my phone one time after having it for a year and a half. Has hardly any scratches on it but the one time I drop it my lock button collapses. If my phone turns off is there a way to get it back on? I'm asking because I know someone who had this happen and I think I remember she could get it back on if she connected a charger. Is this true?

Yep. If you loose the button (like I did with my 3GS) you can plug it into the charger and it will turn on automatically like usual you can also press the home button if its on and just sleeping and of you have a long enough finger nail to put it in the top that works too.

The lock button at the top of my iphone is broken, but i have been using it fine as i have turned on 'Assistive Touch' and have been using the white dot that appears on screen. However, I'm worried about turning it off, and surely the white dot will disappeaer when the phone is off, and I will have no way of turning it on? Am I correct in thinking this?
