Lost all my iPhone date after getting my screen fixed, why?

I've sent my iPhone for repairs because of a cracked screen then a few days later I've given my iPhone back in the post to be found that all my messages, photos, apps and it's data been completely wiped out why?

Did you not read the instructions to back up important data before sending it in. If there weren't instructions to do so, yiu should have had enough common sense to do it anyway.
